Wedding Photography Styles: A brief breakdown of the styles I use, and what it all means.

My style blends documentary-style wedding photos, editorial and fine art wedding photos, and traditional photos. But what does that mean to you? What does that mean in general?

Documentary or photojournalistic wedding photos are candid pictures of you and your guests, photos taken without interference. These pictures capture moments that cannot be posed, they are photos that reveal the essence of your day.

Traditional or classic wedding photos are what I say are the photos you and your nan will want to frame. These pictures are straightforward with only the lightest artistic and technical touch. They are posed, and a prime example will be your group photos and family formals.

Editorial-style wedding photos are posed but natural-looking photos. These photos, by definition, could easily fit between the covers of a magazine. These photos exemplify your romantic dynamic. Sometimes these photos are full of drama; sometimes they are full of laughter. Either way, they are full of your unique brand of love.

Fine art wedding photography is largely centred on producing images that have a unique composition, and tell a story from a unique angle. These photos will be highly creative. You’ll largely find these photos in your detail shots and your couples’ portraits.

What does this mean as your wedding photographer?

I like to take a bit of everything! I enjoy stretching my creative muscles just as much as I enjoy capturing essential moments and framable photos. However, the most important thing to me is to present you and your partner with a gallery that represents the two of you. This is one thing that we cover in our pre-booking meeting. It’s great to get a feel for what you’re looking for and what you like. I encourage my couples to send me photos that inspire them, and while I won’t try to recreate another artist’s work, I will draw from what you love and add my own spin to it.
